Jacques Delamarre, working with developer Irwin S. Chanin's in-house architectural studio, designed two of the four signature Art Deco twin-towered apartment buildings on Central Park West: The Majestic (1931, 115 CPW) and The Century (1931, 25 CPW). Together with Emery Roth's San Remo and Eldorado, these four buildings constitute the defining Art Deco residential presence on the avenue and among the most aspirational addresses in the city. Delamarre's interiors at the Majestic and Century are distinguished by setback massing that brought 360-degree light into upper-floor tower apartments, double-height entry foyers, and ornamental detailing characteristic of the early-1930s American Art Deco peak. Chanin's role as developer was central — the same client also commissioned the Chanin Building (1929) at 42nd and Lexington, one of the era's most decorated Art Deco commercial towers.
