SHoP Architects (founded 1996) is the American firm responsible for 111 West 57th Street (2022) — the 1,428-foot "Steinway Tower" that, at a 24:1 slenderness ratio, is the most slender skyscraper ever built and one of the most architecturally distinct residential towers in Manhattan. SHoP's design preserves and restores the landmark 1925 Steinway Hall building (originally Warren & Wetmore) as the tower's base, with the apartments inside the landmark wing constituting a distinct heritage-collectible inventory tier. The supertall portion above features terra-cotta and bronze facade detailing in setback massing influenced by the Art Deco-era Manhattan skyscraper vocabulary. SHoP's broader portfolio includes the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the American Copper Buildings, and significant work in waterfront and infrastructural design.
