Jericho Real Estate
An older crossroads and farming community reshaped by postwar housing and Long Island’s road network.
Jericho is an inland Nassau market where the residential search is organized more by neighborhood and road access than by a single rail-side downtown. Detached houses and planned residential developments create a different choice from the older villages on the bays.
History and architecture
Its early history is closely associated with Quaker settlement, agriculture and the community around the Jericho meetinghouse. The modern residential landscape arrived much later, as farms were redeveloped during Long Island’s suburban expansion. That sequence explains the contrast between preserved historic sites and the postwar houses, later renovations and newer construction encountered in a current search.
Transit and the NYC connection
Jericho has no LIRR station bearing its name. Hicksville and Syosset are among the surrounding stations a buyer may consider, depending on the address. The Long Island Expressway and other major roads provide the regional framework, but the local drive remains part of the commute.
The property market
Jericho works as a distinct alternative to both an estate-village purchase and a walk-to-station search. The meaningful comparison is between individual developments, house layouts, condition and accessibility. A valuation should use the correct local setting rather than group every property under the same postal label.
Property tax
About 1.75% of the purchase price a year: roughly $43,800 on a $2.5M house, within a range of $35,000 to $52,500.

A sale does not reset the assessment here, so the seller’s current bill is the number to underwrite. Ask for it, and check for exemptions (STAR, senior, veteran) that will not transfer.
