Tenafly Real Estate
A railroad-era suburb with a town center, an East Hill residential setting and access toward the George Washington Bridge.
Tenafly pairs a commercial center with residential streets that climb toward the Palisades. The East Hill setting and the homes closer to downtown offer different balances of land, topography and access. Its NYC connection is primarily road and bus based rather than a current commuter-rail service.
History and architecture
The railroad encouraged nineteenth-century suburban development, and the historic station remains a landmark even though it no longer functions as a commuter stop. Older houses and later residential construction record the shift from an earlier farming landscape. Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s former home adds a specific historical landmark to that suburban story.
Transit and the NYC connection
There is no active passenger-rail station in Tenafly. NYC trips use the relevant bus service or a road connection, often oriented toward the George Washington Bridge. A historical station building should not be mistaken for present rail access.
The property market
Buyers should compare the actual road position, topography and house rather than treat every East Hill address as equivalent. Sellers benefit from explaining how the property relates to the center and the city journey. A local valuation can be paired with an NYC purchase or sale plan through the Roebling consultation.
Property tax
About 1.75% of the purchase price a year: roughly $35,000 on a $2M house, within a range of $29,800 to $40,300.

A sale does not reset the assessment here, so the seller’s current bill is the number to underwrite. Ask for it, and check for exemptions (STAR, senior, veteran) that will not transfer.
