Irvington Real Estate

A Hudson River village with a Main Street descending to the railroad, historic houses and former estate grounds.

Irvington’s geography is immediately visible: Main Street drops toward the Hudson and the railway, with residential streets rising inland. That arrangement creates a different suburban experience from the Sound Shore or a larger-lot inland town. The river is part of the daily setting, not simply a distant amenity.

History and architecture

The village grew from an older river settlement and took its name from Washington Irving. Nineteenth-century estates and later suburban development left a mix of village houses, apartment properties and larger residential settings. The former industrial waterfront and surviving civic buildings add depth beyond the country-house history.

Transit and the NYC connection

Irvington station is on Metro-North’s Hudson Line to Grand Central. The station is close to the river rather than high on the hill. A house with a river view can therefore have a very different station approach from one near Main Street’s lower end.

The property market

Buyers can compare village access, views and garden space without assuming that a larger lot is always the better choice. Sellers should make the property’s position on the hill and connection to the center clear. An NYC sale or purchase can be evaluated alongside the local home’s particular setting.

Cost of owning

Property tax

About 3.03% of the purchase price a year: roughly $60,600 on a $2M house, within a range of $51,500 to $69,700.

Estimate for Village of Irvington. The sum of the published county, town or city, village, school and special-district rates, converted to market value with the state’s assessment ratio. Rates as of October 2026; sources are listed in the calculator.

A sale does not reset the assessment here, so the seller’s current bill is the number to underwrite. Ask for it, and check for exemptions (STAR, senior, veteran) that will not transfer.
