60 Collister Street is the 1866 American Express Company carriage house with the company's bulldog mascot in a circular terracotta relief on the Hubert Street facade. Used in mid-1980s as home of legendary nightclub Area (with installations by Warhol, Hockney, Heizer).
The structural identity rests on three features. First, the American Express Company stable provenance — built 1866 for the company's draft horse fleet. Second, the Area nightclub cultural overlay — Warhol/Hockney/Heizer installations through the mid-1980s. Third, the boutique 15-unit conversion with The Marble House crown unit — a 9,079 SF three-level maisonette with a 45-foot marble-clad pool ("Quarry Room"), 12-seat theater, game room with wet bar, and 59-foot Grand Hall.
