About the building
471 West 22nd Street belongs to a row of brownstones completed in 1854 for carpenter Jacob B. Tallman on land acquired from Clement Clarke Moore. The Anglo-Italianate design uses an English basement, low stoop and square-headed upper windows beneath a bracketed cornice. The building later became part of the Fitzroy Place townhouse cooperative renovations by Beyer Blinder Belle. Six residences now occupy the brownstone, with common laundry available to the association.
The homes include two- and three-bedroom layouts, garden accommodation and upper-floor apartments with outdoor space. At the lower levels, French doors open onto terraces with steps into private gardens. Working fireplaces and large living rooms appear in the larger homes. Upper accommodation includes private terraces or roof rights, while the building also has a common roof deck. Interior staircases connect levels within duplex layouts, and the common stair provides access to the apartments above the entrance floor.

Sales sourced from NYC Department of Finance recorded transfers (BBL 1-00720-0012) and verified listing data. Apartment-level facts (line, condition, asking-price context) curated and cross-verified by The Roebling Team research desk. Not all transactions cross-verify with ACRIS records — sponsor and LLC purchases sometimes record at stipulated values rather than market price; square footage on co-ops is not officially recorded, figures shown are approximate.

How to read the facts on this page. Items attributed to an offering plan describe the building as it was offered at that filing — unit mix, square footage, the amenity program as planned. They are not a statement about how the building operates today. Tax and compliance figures are sourced separately to current City records and carry their own dates. House rules, staffing and fee policy can change by board resolution without any public filing: treat every policy line here as a starting point for diligence and confirm it with the managing agent. Where this page compares one building or neighborhood to another, that is our analysis of the recorded record — it names the measure, the period and the sample it rests on, and it is an observation about medians rather than a prediction about any particular apartment.
