Atlantic Cloisters

A guide to Atlantic Cloisters, an early Boca Raton condominium community with low-rise apartments, townhomes and landscaped grounds across from the beach.

The Roebling Research Desk · October 2026

Atlantic Cloisters is a low-rise condominium community on the west side of South Ocean Boulevard near De Soto Road. Its apartments and townhomes are arranged within landscaped grounds across the coastal road from the beach. The setting offers a different form of coastal ownership from the towers rising directly on the sand.

The community has an unusually early place in Boca Raton's condominium history. The local Historical Society dates its opening to 1962, although individual buildings and residences carry different construction dates. That distinction is important when comparing specific homes within the property.

An early condominium landscape

Atlantic Cloisters predates many of the taller oceanfront condominiums that now define this stretch of Boca Raton. Its arrangement around gardens and open space provides a different architectural experience: the landscape and the distance between buildings play a larger role than a single tower lobby.

The development's early history should not be read as one uniform construction date. County records identify a 1964 date for Residence S4 at 1299 South Ocean Boulevard, while later components appear elsewhere in the community. An individual property's address and records are therefore more useful than a single date attached to the overall name.

Apartment and townhome choices

Residence S4 provides one documented example: three bedrooms, three baths and 2,143 square feet in County records. The broader collection includes other apartment sizes and townhome arrangements. Those housing types should be compared through their own plans, entry routes and parking provisions.

Amenities and the coastal connection

Reported common facilities include a pool, clubhouse with community space and fitness facilities. The landscaped grounds are a central part of the experience, giving the community a campus-like arrangement rather than concentrating every shared function inside a tower.

Beach access involves crossing the coastal road. The route to the crossing and nearby public access should be considered from the particular home, especially when comparing daily convenience with a building directly on the ocean. Proximity and direct frontage are different physical conditions.

Association assessments and responsibilities may depend on the specific component and home. Current documents should establish what exterior maintenance, parking, storage and shared facilities are included. A community-wide marketing description cannot resolve those apartment-level obligations.
