The Roebling Research Desk · October 2026

The Bridges is a GL Homes residential community in the western Delray Beach area. Detached houses, an internal residential street network and a central recreation complex define its setting. The clubhouse, pool and racquet center provide the shared facilities, while each residence has its own interior plan and private outdoor arrangement.

The community uses Delray Beach mailing addresses in unincorporated Palm Beach County. It is separate from Seven Bridges and Boca Bridges, despite the related names. County planning records identify The Bridges under a different planned development from the one associated with Seven Bridges and Boca Bridges.

A coordinated development from the early 2010s

The homeowners association dates the GL Homes development to 2012 and describes 591 single-family residences within eight subdivisions. The clubhouse sits at the center of that residential organization. Individual houses were completed over time; a 2014 county-recorded residence on Chesapeake Bay Court illustrates one subsequent construction year.

The development's coordinated origin distinguishes it from an older city neighborhood assembled through many unrelated subdivisions. At The Bridges, the common facilities and residential framework were conceived together. The experience of an individual house is nevertheless affected by its position within that framework, including its relationship to the clubhouse, neighboring homes and water.

Later improvements add another layer. Interior remodeling, landscaping and changes to outdoor living areas can differentiate houses that began with related plans. The original construction period describes the development's architectural context, while the present configuration belongs to the individual property.

Substantial houses on residential parcels

A house at 16574 Chesapeake Bay Court provides a concrete example of the built form. County records describe a two-story residence with stucco walls and a concrete-tile roof, completed in 2014 on approximately 0.28 acre. Its recorded 5,225 square feet under air is distinct from the larger total that includes garage and covered porch areas. The County also classifies its land as a water-oriented residential site.

That example illustrates a substantial interior accommodated vertically on a relatively compact residential parcel. The arrangement of rooms between floors, the house's footprint and the remaining garden are separate aspects of its scale. Covered porches contribute to the way a house lives without becoming part of its conditioned interior.

Water-facing properties also have different compositions. A wider rear boundary can present a broad outlook, while a more angled position changes the relationship between the terrace, adjacent houses and the opposite shore. The position of the principal rooms and covered outdoor areas determines how much of that setting becomes part of everyday use.

The clubhouse is the shared social center

The association describes a clubhouse of more than 17,000 square feet. Its Golden Gate Room combines a lounge and multipurpose reception space with a catering kitchen. That arrangement supports informal gathering as well as organized community and private events.

Other indoor spaces include card and game rooms, fitness facilities and an indoor sports area. The restaurant extends from interior dining to a covered patio, giving the recreation complex a dining function as well as a fitness and meeting role. The pool, spa, cabanas, splash area and playground provide different kinds of outdoor recreation within the same shared setting.

The concentration of these uses is central to The Bridges' residential identity. A house supplies private accommodation and outdoor space, while the common complex provides activities that would otherwise require a separate facility. Its scale and organization create a different setting from a residential club whose landscape is primarily arranged around golf.

Racquet facilities combine play and instruction

The Racquet Center has six clay tennis courts and four pickleball courts, with lighting for evening use. Shaded pavilions, spectator areas and a pro shop accompany the courts. The association describes league play, clinics, private lessons and community events as part of the program.

This is more than a collection of courts attached to a pool. The coaching and organized-play structure gives racquet sports a continuing role in community life. The relationship between instruction, informal play and scheduled events helps define the facility's use throughout the year.

The association connects individual houses and common facilities

The Bridges operates through a homeowners association, with professional management based at the clubhouse. Exterior changes require prior association approval. The architectural controls and shared facilities belong to the same residential framework, while upkeep of the individual house remains a separate part of ownership.

Seven Bridges offers a useful comparison within the same broad development corridor. Addison Reserve and Mizner Country Club provide residential golf-club alternatives. See the Delray Beach guide for the complete collection.
